Everyone has a different take when asked what photos mean to them. To some, it’s a source of documentation, a way to remember moments. To others, purely an expression of art.
That’s kind of the beauty of it. Photography can be many things. For me, I find it to be a mix.
What’s with the above photo? A rose on the ground. Why did I choose to share it on my website?
This photo is very natural, and I mean that in more than just that it was outside. This is a straight from camera image, taken on a lovely walk around a lake, playing with my camera.
This photo takes me to the mood on that beautiful day, and the darker colors of the image contrast the canary-colored flower. The deep colors strike emotion in me.
Further yet, it’s this stunning, near-perfect rose, resting on the floor. It’s not up in the sky, standing out getting all the unfiltered sunlight. It’s down in a place you’d expect to find the fading flowers, the roses that have either lived out life, faded, and fallen, or the ones who just didn’t make it, due to pests or people or whatever it may be. I was eyeing all the roses on this bush when I knelt down and noticed this one.
It’s got some speckles of dirt, possibly splattered up from rain or dropped by an insect or bird, but that doesn’t detract from the beauty. The soft, detailed petals with sharp edges are still the focus. Despite the imagery of the ground and the dirt, the rose stands out.
That speaks to me about life. Life doesn’t always put you in the most beautiful situations, but you can still be strong despite it. Since the click of the shutter, this has been one of my favorite photos, and all I had to do was look in an unexpected place.
